Joe Brady ‘11

After taking the first-ever pre-engineering course with Dr. Lottes/Mrs. Moore my junior year back in 2010, I decided I wanted to pursue engineering. Through AP Chemistry with Mrs. Ansley and a heavy dose of Mr. Finley my senior year, I decided on chemical engineering.  Fast forward four years, and over a year of experience at GlaxoSmithKline and Johnson & Johnson, and I am about to start a PhD program at MIT (with acceptances to Berkeley, Princeton, Penn, and other top schools). I was also humbled to receive the Chemical Engineering Department medallion at Villanova University’s graduation as well as the award for the top overall student in the College of Engineering graduating class of 2015. I will always be thankful for my time at Shanahan not just for the opportunities which I've been given, but the moral compass necessary to pursue them.

If you are looking for proof of Bishop Shanahan's excellence in academics, I would encourage you to look no further than Villanova University's recent graduation ceremony. I was honored to graduate summa cum laude, receive the Electrical Engineering Department medallion, and also watch my fellow Shanahan graduate, Joseph Brady, receive many accolades as well. I could not have been more proud of the invaluable foundation that Shanahan had given to us. During my time at Villanova, I had the honor of being a Presidential Scholar, participate in a study abroad program in Madrid, Spain, and spend a couple of my spring breaks in Nicaragua and Panama with Engineers Without Borders. I recently began work at Lockheed Martin in their Mission Systems and Training division in Moorestown, NJ. I am currently in Lockheed's Engineering Leadership Development Program which includes four 9-month rotations and participation in a Master's program. Looking back, I am extremely grateful for all Shanahan gave me that has allowed me to be where I am now.

 The Connelly Foundation is very proud of these two Neumann Scholars from the Class of 2011.  They are two great examples of the 948 graduates of the Neumann Scholars Program since its inception in 1995.
